Kóra
Packaging Design
Problem: Dance tights often come in single use, mostly nonerecyclable packaging with no way to safely store the tights once opened.
Solution: Kóra is an emerging dance tights brand that focuses on sustainability while maintaining an air of elegance and modernity for professional women dancers who value functionality over decoration. Each type of packaging is recyclable with the paper tubes doubling as reusable storage for the tights. The “K” in Kóra’s wordmark mimics the fluidity of a performer’s arms when in ballet’s fourth position. The sans-serifs typefaces Sweet Sans Pro and Univers reinforce the brands simple elegance and easy legibility.

Kyoto City Logo
Logo Design
Problem: Kyoto is seeking to update their visual identity to include traditional and modern elements important to the city.
Solution: This logo combines the elements of brushstrokes used in traditional Japanese shodo with the industrial nature of Kyoto’s manufacturing district. The cherry blossom signifies Kyoto’s rich culture and dedication to the preservation of the natural environment. The dynamic motion of the petals is a nod towards the gears used in the manufacturing district of this rapidly modernizing city. Combining the sans-serif Univers with the stylized cherry blossom is a perfect blend of modern and traditional.

The Kingpin
Branding + Logo Design
Problem: Spaces built for teens and families are dwindling
Solution: The Kingpin is a retro-style indoor roller-skating rink that aims to provide a fun and loose atmosphere for families and friends. The visual identity system blends the playful nature of roller-skating with geometric design trends of the 1980s. The typography and logo pay homage to the 80s through bright colors, a bold sans-serif typeface, and the usage of geometric shapes to abstractly form a roller-skate. The inherent sense of motion in the logo translates to a fun motion graphic showcasing logo lockups and The Kingpin’s goal to have people “get loose.”

About
Jadyn Young is a senior at Auburn University pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. She loves merging grids, negative space, and typography to create meaningful and functional compositions. Typography, branding design, and publication design are her current interests.
Paul Rand once said, “Good design adds value of some kind, gives meaning, and, not incidentally, can be sheer pleasure to behold; it respects the viewer’s sensibilities and rewards the entrepreneur.” A good design can be functional while never sacrificing the effort to give meaning to each decision. A well-researched and applied design can make the difference between a generic mark and something that becomes a defining visual identity. Exploring and researching are the most fun and rewarding parts of being a graphic designer.
